Trustix™ - 'Astonishingly fast'

Astonishingly Fast with minimum Vulnerability Exposure - All part of the Service

New York, 12th August 2004. Market acceptance of the Open Source model is now a moot point. It is here to stay. Therefore what advantages do open source providers bring to customers eager to embrace the security, stability and cost advantages of the open source model? Trustix™ the recognized leader in the Secure Enterprise Server Operating System Market demonstrates this differentiator on a daily basis - Service.

Powered by a highly skilled, highly efficient Research and Development organization focused on security, Trustix™ have created not only the most secure Linux Distribution available for Enterprise Servers, but more importantly the mechanisms and processes able to maintain it. Security vulnerabilities tend to follow a pattern not too dissimilar to the ripple effects on a pond. The discovery of a vulnerability within an Open Source component sparks off an advisory from the group responsible for the component. Vendors who are at risk from the vulnerability then issue their own advisory. These can take days, weeks or even months to fix depending upon the efficiency of the vendor.

Using information publicly available on the Secunia web site, and taking the initial component advisory as a base line, the time taken by Vendors to issue updates was recorded by a team headed by Edmund De Jesus. The relative performance of open source vendors could then be judged.

"For the 22 vulnerabilities we examined, we calculated the average time it took each vendor to fix problems. Some vendors are astonishingly fast. EnGarde, OpenBSD, Slackware and Trustix all posted fixes in a day or less ", commented Edmund De Jesus writing for Search Security.com. "Another statistic is the number of fixes by a vendor. Conectiva, Debian, Gentoo, Mandrake and SuSE all had 14 or more fixes for the 22 vulnerabilities we examined, while Apple, Cisco, EnGarde, Immunix, SCO, Smoothwall and Trustix all had four or fewer".

"This highly effective look at the vulnerability market clearly illustrates the advantages that solutions and services based upon the Trustix Operating System offer to end customers - Astonishingly fast updates and minimal vulnerabilities to begin with." Comments Steve Roylance, Vice President for Global Technical Marketing at Trustix.
